Frequently asked questions
Who is Trackdrop for?
Trackdrop is built for record labels, artists, and promo teams who regularly send unreleased music to DJs, radio hosts, and curators. It is designed for professional promo workflows rather than mass fan marketing or playlist pitching at scale. If your goal is targeted, relationship-led promo with feedback and accountability, Trackdrop is designed for you.
How is this different from emailing promo links?
Email was never designed for modern music promo. Attachments are blocked, links get buried, and there is no reliable way to see who actually listened. For those simply wanting to get their music ‘out there’, Trackdrop gives anyone an easy way to listen, download and give feedback. For more sensitive releases, it adds identity-based access, listening controls, and clear visibility over who engages with your music. You can choose how open or how locked down each release should be.
Do I own my music and promo data?
Yes. You retain full ownership of your music, artwork, and all associated release assets. Trackdrop does not claim any rights to your content. Your promo data, including recipient lists and engagement insights, also remains yours. Trackdrop exists to deliver and surface insights from your own work, not to repackage or resell it. You can review this in full in our Terms. If anything does not align with your expectations, we want you to tell us.
Who actually receives my promos?
You control exactly who receives each release. You can send promos to your own private DJ and contact lists, and in future you will also be able to expand your reach by targeting relevant DJs and Curators via Mixcloud. There is no public blasting and no automatic distribution without your intent. Every Trackdrop is deliberate.
What formats are supported?
Trackdrop supports high-quality audio files (WAV, AIFF and MP3), artwork, release notes, streaming links, and supporting assets.. Our aim is to preserve audio integrity while keeping access fast and reliable. If there is a need for other formats in the future, we are flexible on expanding the formats listed above.
What kind of analytics do I get?
You can see who received, opened, clicked, listened to, and downloaded your promo in a real-time dashboard. We are also building audio fingerprinting into Trackdrop, powered by Mixcloud’s listening infrastructure. This will surface when your tracks are played in DJ sets and mixes after they leave your inbox. This is designed to give you clearer insight into real-world reach and downstream exposure, not just inbox activity.
Can recipients download the tracks?
You decide. Downloads can be enabled or disabled per promo. This gives you control over how far files travel while still allowing trusted contacts to access full-quality files when appropriate.
Is this secure?
Yes. Trackdrop uses encryption and secure playback technologies (Widevine, Fairplay) as used by Netflix, Disney+, Spotify, Warner Bros, HBO Max, Youtube, Meta and Prime Video. Access is controlled at the user level, with the ability to restrict, revoke, or time-limit access to each release. While no system can promise absolute prevention of leaks, Trackdrop is built to significantly reduce unwanted and casual redistribution compared to open file sharing. Trackdrop is significantly more secure than sharing Dropbox links, WeTransfer files, or email attachments. Every listen is tied to an authenticated recipient, giving you visibility and accountability that standard file sharing tools simply do not provide.
How much will it cost?
Pricing will be announced during the private beta phase. Early access users will receive preferential access and pricing as the platform evolves. The goal is to keep Trackdrop accessible for independent labels and artists, not just large promo teams, so we’ll be working with early access users to figure out the appropriate pricing structure.
When will Trackdrop launch?
Trackdrop will launch in stages through a closed early access and private beta process. This allows features to be shaped around real label and artist workflows rather than assumptions. Join the waiting list to express interest in getting early access and to be notified when access opens.
Will Trackdrop replace my current promo tools?
Trackdrop is designed to replace the most fragile parts of promo delivery and feedback, not to force you into an all-or-nothing workflow. You can still use email, messaging, and other tools alongside it. The intention is to reduce friction, not add another rigid system.
Can I sell my music on Trackdrop?
Direct sales are something we are actively exploring for a future phase. Early access is focused on promo delivery, feedback, and analytics. If and when sales are introduced, they will be built to give artists and labels maximum control and transparency.
What is Trackdrop’s relationship with Mixcloud?
Trackdrop is being built by the team behind Mixcloud, drawing on over a decade of experience supporting DJs, artists, and labels. It is a separate product with its own focus on promo delivery, feedback, and analytics, but it benefits from Mixcloud’s technical infrastructure and deep understanding of how music travels through DJ and radio culture. Over time, this relationship will enable powerful connections between promo activity on Trackdrop and real-world play across Mixcloud’s ecosystem.
Can Trackdrop distribute my music to other streaming platforms?
Distribution to all major streaming platforms is something we are actively exploring for a future phase. Early access is focused on promo delivery, feedback, and analytics. If and when distribution is introduced, it will be built to give artists and labels maximum control and transparency.
